Monarch Advocates Switch Over To Parliamentary System Of Government

The Emir of Ningi in Bauchi state Alhaji Yunusa Muhammad Dan’yaya has advocated switch over from the presidential to parliamentary system of government for the country to surmount her numerous financial challenges and past track development.
Alhaji Yunusa Muhammad Dan’yaya made his position known in his palace while answering questions from newsmen who asked him about the agitation from some members of the National Assembly for the change from the presidential to parliamentary system of the government.
Radio Nigeria gathered that the Emir represented Bauchi State Council of Emirs at the 1979-1983 National Council of States, the North East representative of the 1994-1995 Constitutional Conference as well as the representative of the Northeast at Visio 2010.
The Monarch acknowledged that the current system of government is capital intensive and the current economic challenges being experienced the world over which Nigeria is not exceptional would not allow those in the helm of affairs to initiate programmes and policies that will have direct impacts on the lives of the people.
“Just like the assembly of the three estates of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the lords spiritual, lords temporal and representative of the commons, when summoned by the royal authority to consult on the affairs of the nation and to enact and repeal laws” Dan’yaya pointe.
He noted that Nigeria is blessed with human and natural resources hence to adopt the parliamentary system of government to harness them to past track the nation’s development in all aspects of the economy.
On the issue of the state policing, the Emir objected the idea stressing that some selfish politicians who are desperate to win election may hijack and use them to oppress their opponents.
“I am afraid of potential mishandling and improper management of the state force from some governors which could lead to adverse consequences” he explained.
Alhaji Yunusa Muhammad Dan’yaya noted that instead the current vigilante groups in most of the states should be trained to work with the conventional security agents to address banditry and other social vices.
The Traditional Ruler said the issue of security should not be left to the government alone but all hands must be on deck to nib the problem from the bud as there is proliferation of small and light weapons in all parts of the country.
“… I think there are unpatriotic security personnel who take advantage of the security situations in all parts of the country to accumulate wealth…” the Monarch lamented.
He used the forum to commend people of his Emirate for their immense contributions in cash and in kind to tackle the the recent cases of banditry and kidnapping in the area.
