NEDC donates assorted consumables, medical equipment to UMTH, 10 PHCs in Borno

The North East Development Commission NEDC, has donated medical equipment worth fifteen million naira to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
The Commission also presented assorted medical consumables to ten maternal and child centres in Borno state.
At a ceremony in Maiduguri, Borno State Coordinator of the North East Development Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Watsada said the medical items was to strengthen the healthcare system especially at the grassroot level.
According to him, the Commission has in the last three months organised training for 135 health workers on cervical cancer elimination across six states of the region, explaining that the items is part of package for the capacity building programme.
“Today we are extending the medical consumables to the primary Healthcare Board for onward delivery to the primary healthcare centres” Watsada said.
On the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital medical intervention, the Coordinator remarked that a complete emergency set comprising mucus extracting machine, ventilator and laboratory incubator was donated to the tertiary medical centre.
Alhaji Mohammed Watsada expressed commitment of the Commission to continue support the healthcare and other critical sectors to fast track the recovery process of the North East.
Representatives of the Chief Medical Director of UMTH Malam Dahiru Hammawa and that of the Executive Secretary State Primary Healthcare Development Board Dr Aliyu Shettima said the items will improve quality of service being rendered in the facilities.
“This items came at the right time when the need of the equipment are highly need and they will in no small measure help in improving quality of services”.
Correspondent Dauda Iliya reports that the ten benefiting local government areas to benefit from the medical consumables included Mobbar, Monguno, Gubio, Kaga, Mafa, Bama, Jere, Biu, Gwoza and Askira Uba.
