NPF Inaugurates National Leadership of Nigerian Neighborhood Watch

The Nigeria Police Force has inaugurated the National leadership of the Nigerian Neighborhood Watch, NNW, a volunteer security outfit working under the Community Policing subsidiary of the force.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Bauchi, the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Auwal Hassan called on them to ensure professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

CP Auwal Hassan represented by CSP Holiman Simon, charged the newly inaugurated members of the volunteer security outfit to work in synergy and always seek the intervention of officers and men of the force to avoid abuse of the law.

He warned them against acting in contravention of the provisions and rules guiding their daily routine.

In a remark, the representative of the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Mishap Titus who highlighted the role of volunteer community outfits in fishing out bad elements in the society, urged them not to engage in any act that contravenes the laws of the land.

In a paper titled “Building Partnership, Community and the Nigeria Police”, a lecturer with the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi, Dr Abdullahi Yelwa underscored the need to strategically engage the youth in community activities to ensure adequate security.

Dr Yelwa listed some of the strategies to adopt to include mentorship programmes, digital responsibility, conflict resolution and mediation among others.

The inaugurated officers are Isma’il Shu’aibu Commander General, Aliyu Ahmed Deputy Commander General, Administration and Finance, Adam Umar Adam Deputy Commander General Operations and Commander Kaduna State.

Others are Yakubu Sa’ad Deputy Commander General, North East Zone and Commander Bauchi State, Corneius Nyam Victor Assitant Commander General North Central, and Kabiru Garba Commander Public Relations Office National Headquaters.

Speaking on behalf of members, the Commander General, Nigerian Neighborhood Watch Isma’il Shu’aibu assured readiness to gather and act on intelligence within their respective communities and share same with the Police towards tackling security threats bedeviling various parts of the country.
