NWUYO FISHING FESTIVAL: TY Danjuma sues for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians

Former Chief of Army Staff, retired General Theophilus Danjuma, says Nigerians must co-existence peacefully to achieve desired Development.

The former Chief of Army Staff stated this at the opening ceremony of Nwunyo fishing festival in Ibi local government area of Taraba state.

The Former Chief of Army Staff retired General Theophilus Danjuma who was the Chairman of the fishing festival said for a cultural festival of such magnitude to have international recognition, the people of Taraba state and the country as a whole must learn to live peacefully with one another.

He said the security situation in the country is bad and requires strategic measures from all stakeholders to restore absolute security to all parts of the country.

The retired general noted that no foreign investor will invest in a country where security is not guaranteed, thanking the state government for reviving the fishing festival.

In his speech, the Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who was the special guest of honor at the festival commended governor Kefas Agbu, the Traditional Council and all stakeholders for preserving the Culture and History of the people through the celebration of the Nwunyo fishing festival.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri stressed that the richness of the culture and peaceful traditional disposition of the Jukun people has brought them close to many ethnic groups in the country and beyond.

The governor challenged the Jukun Nation to sustain the dynamism that has evolved in the Nwunyo Fishing Festival by incorporating actions that tend to create more awareness in critical areas of Agriculture, Health, Education and Economic Empowerment which will attract the attention of global investors to the multi-sectoral benefits of harnessing the potentials of the State for economic benefit of all, pledging to partner with Taraba State governor, for the benefit of the two states.

In his remarks , the governor of Taraba state, Agbu Kefas, highlighted factors that necessitated the revival of the fishing festival and one of them was to preserve the heritage of the people of the state as well as the cherished history which the people see as a major catalyst in uniting them, calling for Peace and unity among the people.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the organizing committee who is also the deputy governor of the state Abdullahi Ali Alkali represented by a former deputy governor of the state, Armayau Abubakar, called on all partners, developers and stakeholders to join hands with the state government in exploring the abundant potentials in the state.

Highlights of the event were cultural dances from different ethnic groups across the state as well as the inspection of the proposed Kefas Nwuyo village by dignitaries who graced the occasion.
