Over 500 people recovered from Meningitis in Yobe

About 564 persons have fully recovered after the outbreak of Acute Bacteria Meningitis in Yobe State.

The disease monitoring and notification officer of the health control agency Haruna Umar, made the disclosure in an interview with Newsmen in Damaturu.

He explained that the virus was first reported on December 24, 2023, and confirmed on January 26, 2024 in Potiskum LGA, before it later spread to Nangere and Fika LGAs

Umar added that 26 deaths have been reported, while 564 patients have recovered and the remaining 50 persons are still being cared for in different isolation centers.

He also added that the 640 people whom were diagnosed with the virus are from six local governments which included; Machina, Nangere, Fika, Fune, Potiskum and Gujba.

The health officer confirmed that government has taken urgent measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the state.
