Theatre Commander Assures to Tackle Rising IED Attacks In Northeast

The new Theatre Commander Joint Taskforce Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Waidi Shuaibu has promised to galvanise personnel to ensure that the mandate of the Operation is achieved by restoring sustainable peace in the region. 

General Shaibu made the promise shortly after taking over the command from the outgone Theatre Commander, Major General Gold Chibuisi at the Command and Control Centre in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri. 

He noted that his coming to the theatre is an opportunity to serve, assuring to bolster the counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations. 

“we must go ahead with the mandate of the ongoing operations and ensure that we enhance it, as well as ensure that the officers and men are doing what they are supposed to do” General Shaibu said.

The Theatre Commander also promised to tackle the rising incidents of improvised explosive device ( IED ) attacks on civilians in Borno and some parts of the North-East.

” The latest tactics of the terrorists which is resorting to planting of IEDs on soft targets is part of the issues we will be working on and very soon, we are going to address it.” 

Addressing troops shortly before handing over command to the new theater Commander, the outgone Theater Commander, Major General Gold Chibuisi described his posting to serve in the Theatre as an honour and a rare privilege. 

He thanked the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the service chiefs for finding him worthy to serve, and expressed gratitude to the troops for the support they accorded him in the fight against insurgency. 

Major General Chibuisi then urged the troops to extend the same support to the new Theater Commander.

He also appreciate Governors of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa state, the media and members of the humatarian community for their support in non kinetic approach to the fight against insurgency.
