We Will Take Preventive Measures to Avoid Further Occurrence of Fire Incidents on Campus- VC- Yobe Versity

The Vice Chancellor of the Yobe State University, YSU, Professor Mala Daura, says the University Management is working towards providing protective measures to avoid further occurrence of the fire outbreak on the campus.

Professor Daura stated this while briefing Journalists on the situation of last week’s fire incident that led to the destruction of a 195-bed capacity girls’ hostel.

Speaking at the briefing held in the University Council Chamber, VC explained that all 195 students living in the hostel were safely rescued but lost all their items in the incident.

Professor Daura commended the Yobe State Government for a quick response through the state emergency management agency, SEMA, by providing emergency relief items to 195 victims, which include: mattresses, blankets, three wrappers, and a cash donation of 100,000 naira among others to each of the victims.

He also expressed appreciation to some individuals who paid sympathy to the University and made donations to the victims.

VC, therefore, said all financial and material support provided by the state government and some individuals were handed to the Victims.

He, further, thanked the state fire service, security personnel, and members of the communities for their assistance and support during and after the incident.

Daura added that the University management will announce its decision on the cause of the incident after the investigation committee report.
