Yobe Gov’t Donates N100m to Victims of Fire Inferno in Damaturu

Yobe State Government has donated 100 million naira to the Harmonize Traders Association members affected by the fire disaster.

The State Governor Mai Mala Buni announced the donation during a visit to the GSM Market, in Damaturu, the scene of the incident to sympathize with the victims.

Buni described the fire disaster as very unfortunate and a great loss to the individual victims and the state.

Governor Buni assured his administration’s continued support to the traders to recover their businesses, to generate more employment opportunities for the youths.

He, therefore, called on the people to be vigilant and take proactive measures against possible causes of fire disasters both at home and in business places.

The Governor further directed the Secretary to the State Government to allocate shops to the victims at the newly constructed Ibrahim Gaidam modern market in Damaturu.

He also directed the state Ministry of Housing to evaluate the level of damage with a view to reconstructing the affected structures for the owners.

Briefing the Governor on the incident, the Executive Secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Dr. Mohammed Goje, said the Agency estimated about One Hundred and Fifty-Seven million naira items were damaged from Thirty-three shops gutted by an early morning fire.

The Chairman Harmonize Traders Association, Malami Mohammed, thanked the Yobe State Government for the quick response, saying that the intervention would help them recover their businesses.
