Zulum urges citizens to observe voluntary fast amid economic hardship.

The Borno state Governor, Babagana Zulum has urged citizens of the state to observe a one day voluntary fast on Monday next week to ameliorate the current economic hardship and peace to reign in the state. 

Governor Zulum made the request during a statewide broadcast. 

The Governor said he is deeply troubled by the recent hardships faced by citizens, particularly the high cost of food items and how families struggle to sustain their means of livelihood. 

According to him, his administration is taking decisive steps to address the issues through massive investment in modern agriculture,  providing support to local farmers, and creating incentives for agricultural innovation.

“Fellow citizen, as people of faith and from our previous experience, I implore on his eminence, the Shehu of Borno, the Chief Imam, Imams, and the Christian brothers and the Citizens of Borno State to observe a one day voluntary fast on Monday the 19th February 2024” Zulum urged. 

Governor Zulum remarked that he has engaged with stakeholders in the business of essential commodities and have taken far-reaching decisions to mitigate the rising cost of the essential goods.

He assured to step up the distribution of palliatives especially for residents of Maiduguri Metropolitan and Jere. 

The Governor expressed concern on the rising incident of mines explosion on some major roads by miscreants, noting that there are forces behind sabotaging the gains recorded so far. 

He However promised to ensure that  perpetrators are fished out and dealt with accordingly.
