The Nigerian Navy has dismantled a suspected militants’ hideout at Ine Ikoridung coastal settlement in Cross River State.
The Base Information Officer, Nigerian Navy Ship Victory, Lieutenant Commander Sulaiman Bala, disclosed this in a statement, saying the militants had been using the settlement to terrorise coastal communities in the state.
According to the statement, troops conducted an intelligence-led operation in the Dayspring axis, forcing the suspects to flee as patrol gunboats approached the settlement.
The operation led to the recovery of five empty cartridges, military and police camouflage vests, a military pullover and a notebook containing records of suspected militants, among other items.
The statement said the identified huts were subsequently destroyed to prevent the militants from using the settlement as a safe haven.
It added that Nigerian Navy Ship Victory would sustain pressure on the militants until security is fully restored to the maritime environment.
