A Kano High Court presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu has restrained Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and four other dethroned Emirs from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.

The court ordered them, their servants, and privies to desist from using the title, following a case filed by the Kano State Government.

However, the judge ruled that the issue of evicting Bayero from his Nasarawa palace is a Rent Tribunal matter and not within her jurisdiction.

The court directed the deposed Emirs to hand over all traditional and royal artifacts to the state government and the substantive Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Justice Aliyu upheld the validity of the State Assembly’s Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024, citing Section 4 of the Constitution. She also ruled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s assent to the law was constitutional.

Radio Nigeria recalled that Kano State government had earlier directed the deposed Emirs to vacate their palaces within 48 hours.
