USAID Breakthrough action Nigeria BA-N has awarded Radio Nigeria Globe FM Bauchi for exceptional performance in disseminating social and behaviors change, health communication.
Presenting an award of commendation on behalf of BA-Nigeria at an award and recognition ceremony for media and SBC/ACG members, the state commissioner of health Dr Sani Muhammad Dambam appreciated media organizations for their role in disseminating key health messages to the public.
Dr Sani Muhammad Dambam said Breakthrough action Nigeria has contributed a lot in improving positive health indices in the State.
He assured that the state government will continue to give priority to health sector for improve health and wellbeing of the people.
The commissioner noted that the state government budget for health is 15 percent which is above Abuja declaration.
Speaking the Chairman state primary health care development board Dr Rilwanu Muhammad commended Breakthrough action Nigeria for investing in social and behavioral change, demand creation for health and strengthening Community system for health in the state.
Earlier, the State coordinator Breakthrough action Nigeria Malam Usman Inuwa said the project has impacted positively in the 17 behavior areas as well as malaria, TB, Lassa fever and global health security.
“We work with our foot soldiers in the communities, that is where the issues are, in the household and community. We engage over 3.5 million community members in Bauchi”
Malam Usman Inuwa explained that the project used human centered designed in its implementation.
” So before we even started the project we did what we call human centered designed, where we pick some local government, we pick some words, in Bauchi, Sokoto and Kebbi State. In Bauchi State we pick Dass and Kirfi local government where we went there and interacted with different people to get there perception and understand their real issues in the community, and that help us to come up with approaches we work with “
The state coordinator BA-Nigeria stated that , the project engage 69 word development committee, the raise over 6 million to support their facilities and support their women to attend ANC and deliver at health facility “
Also speaking the Co- Chairman social and behavioral change advocacy core group, Alhaji Abdullahi Yakubu Marafa appreciated the project in changing the narratives and assured of continue to engage the Communities for improve health care services in the state.
Speaking, the General Manager Globe FM Bauchi, Malam Aminu Abdullahi Gombi represented by a Principal Producer Ishaq Haruna Hardawa commended Breakthrough action Nigeria for it’s support in sponsoring and airing of health messages at the station.
” Our partnership with BA- Nigeria has been very fruitful and hope that similar project would come up to continue from where the stop, because demand creation is key in achieving universal health coverage”
Malam Aminu Gombi assured that the station will continue to improve in it’s contents for the overall development of the state.
Highlights of the event include presentation of award to media stations, producers, on air personalities and SBC/ ACG members.
