The Agro Climate Resilience in Semi Arid Landscapes ACReSAL in Bauchi State is targeting about twenty thousand hectares of land for restoration through tree planting this year.

The seven hundred million dollar project is currently supported by World Bank across nineteen northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The Bauchi State Coordinator ACReSAL, Dr Ibrahim Kabir disclosed this at a step down large scale restoration workshop organised for relevant stakeholders in Bauchi.

Dr Ibrahim Kabir said areas for the tree planting would be identified with a view to restore degraded lands and fight desertification.

He said the aim of organising the workshop was to share ideas and techniques used in tackling desertification in the affected communities.

The State Coordinator ACReSAL called on the participants to stepdown the knowledge gained to their colleagues and be good ambassadors of the project in order to achieve the desired objectives.

On his part, the Director General Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency BASEPA, Dr Mahmoud Muhammad Bose said the workshop was apt consider the alarming rate of illegal felling of trees in the society and promised sustained collaboration with ACReSAL project in the area of enlightenment on the need to embrace afforestation.

Also Speaking, the State Commissioner of Housing and Environment Danlami Ahmed Kawule and that of Water Resources Nuhu Zaki appreciated the organisers and pledge total commitment to the project.

The workshop drew participants from all the twenty local government areas of the state.
