FUHS Azare Seeks Collaboration With Bauchi Gov’t On Students’ Training

The Federal University of Health Sciences, FUHS Azare in Bauchi State has sought the support of the state government in training of the university’s students in the State Specialist Hospital and rural health care facilities aimed at boosting their capacity.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Bala Muhammad Audu made the call when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the state Commissioner for Health in his office.

Professor Bala Audu said the collaboration would help in addressing the manpower gap in the state, thereby making it a win-win situation for both parties.

He explained that the benefit was not limited to the students training but to also boost the number of healthcare workers in various facilities across the state.

The Vice Chancellor assured that the University would deploy a number of consultants to offer different services to the people and at the same time train the students posted to the State Specialist Hospital Bauchi.

He further disclosed that the institution was offering thirteen medical courses to include Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Optometry, Dental Therapy, Epidemiology, Audiology, Dental Technology, Environmental Health, Nutrition, Radiology and Health Information Technology among others.

Responding, the State Commissioner of Health, Dr Adamu Sambo expressed readiness to offer all the needed support to the university towards achieving the desired objective.

Dr Sambo said the state government would provide the needed equipment in addition to the existing ones at the State Specialist Hospital Bauchi, General Hospital Duguri and other facilities that would be engaged at a later stage of the partnership.

He added that the move would pave the way for smooth implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU to be signed with the University in due course.
