Int’l FGM day: NAWOJ Kano visit VVF patients.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano state chapter paid a visit to Kwalli Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF) rehabilitation centre, as part of activities to commemorate the international day of zero tolerance to female genital Mutilation (FGM).

Speaking during the visit, the state NAWOJ chairperson Comrade Hafsat Sani Usman explained that, they were at the VVF rehabilitation centre to support the patients.

She explained that, NAWOJ interacted with the patients and provided support kits to make them more comfortable.

The chairperson appealed to the public to contribute their quota in the fight against female genital mutilation to achieve the desired objectives.

Comrade Hafsat commended the management of the VVF rehabilitation centre for their tireless efforts in maintaining the hygiene and health of the patients, and the state government for it’s support and commitment to keeping the centre fully equipped.

The officer in charge of the centre, Hajiya Farida Idris Usman, pointed out that, the rehabilitation centre accommodates patients who have undergone surgery at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

She urged philanthropists and wealthy individuals to support the centre by contributing clothing materials, pads and detergents.

Some of the patients who spoke to Radio Nigeria shared their experiences on how they were diagnosed with Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF).

The items distributed include pads, and detergents, among others.
