Trophies won at the LYS Academy Biannual Inter House Competition

Bauchi State Government says it is leveraging on Sporting and other Extra curricular activities as Psychosocial support mechanism towards reducing the impact of the current hardship being faced in the country.

The State Commissioner of Humanitarian and Disaster Management Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka stated this at the 2024 LYS International Academy 2nd Biannual Interhouse Sports Competition held at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium Bauchi.

Hajiya Hajara Wanka who restated her ministry’s support to all activities that would ensure coordination and unity in human activities, charged Corporate and Non-governmental Organisations, Parents and individuals to support government’s drive in that regard.

On her part, the Commissioner of Education Dr Jamila Dahiru represented by the Deputy Director Sports in the ministry, Bala Maijama’a Umar said the present administration has included in its action plan activities that would ensure the revival of sporting activities in all public schools.

Dr Jamila Dahiru who commended Lys Academy for being a leading example in organising such events, called on other schools to emulate the initiative towards improving academic and social activities among children.

Speaking on behalf of the Chairman Lys Academy Bauchi, Alhaji Murtala Mohammed, the Head Teacher of the School, Mr Mike Monday Amalika said the essence of the event is to foster unity among the students and bring out potentials to enable them chose a career path at a young age.

Alhaji Murtala Mohammed said sports has now become a lucrative career among youth, hence the need for schools, parents and Corporate bodies to encourage children who have interest in sports to build their talents and keep fit.

The LYS International Academy 2024 Annual Interhouse Sports Competition which witnessed large turnout of dignitaries and Parents, saw pupils and students partake in track and field events to include Long Jump, Discus, Shot-put, track race, relay, egg race, sack race, Ball picking race, Filling the bottle.

The event which featured four Houses to include Green, Yellow, Blue and Red in Match Past and football match, saw Green House winning 26 Gold, 6 Silver and 10 bronze medals to emerge overall winner of the competition.
