NAFDAC, Organizes Three Day Capacity Building Workshop Towards Promoting Breastfeeding in Yobe

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has organized a three-day capacity-building workshop for members of its Technical Committee on Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes.

The event which took place at the NAFDAC meeting room in Damaturu, also involves the Inauguration of the Committee for Yobe State as well as the Training of members.

In an address of welcome, the Director, of Food Safety and Applied Nutrition NAFDAC, Mrs. Eva Edwards, represented by Yobe State Coordinator of the Agency, Lawan Musa Dadingelma, says the event marks the inauguration and building the capacity of the State Multi-Sectoral Technical Committee for the implementation of International Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes, BMS.

According to her, the BMS Code involves a set of global recommendations by WHO and UNICEF to member Countries towards promoting breastfeeding.

Speaking, the Breast Milk Substitutes Desk Officer NAFDAC, Mrs. Rahila Maishanu, says the three days capacity building workshop is part of NAFDAC’s move to ensure the protection, Promotion, and support of Breast Milk feeding In remarks, some of the participants described the training and the inauguration of the State Technical Committee as timely.

They assured to step down the knowledge acquired in the training to mothers at home.
