Youth especially students have been cautioned against negative use of available platforms such as Social Media to perpetrate acts capable of causing violence and insecurity.

A Lecturer with Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, ATAP, Bauchi, Comrade Abdullahi Yelwa gave the advice at a Security Summit organised by the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Joint Campus Council, JCC Bauchi Axis held at ATBU Yelwa campus.

In a paper titled Mobilising Youth for Community Engagement and Conflict Resolution, Comrade Abdullahi Yelwa said all evil acts begin with individual thinking before manifesting into collaborative ideas, hence the need for youth to always channel their energy into positive activities.

Comrade Yelwa who said youth constitute majority of the population, noted that they must take advantage of their age to bequeath a legacy that would serve as an example for future generations to come.

In another Paper on the Role of Police in ensuring the Safety and Wellbeing of the Public, the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Muhammed Wakil said every police officer is responsible for the security of 735 Nigerians, hence the resolve to embrace community policing to effectively manage issues of insecurity in the country.

Sp Ahmed Wakil said individual perception contributed a lot to negative actions by individuals, warning that the Force is empowered by law to use all necessary measures to manage situations before degenerating into crisis.

Earlier, the Bauchi state Governor Bala Muhammed represented by his Chief Security Adviser, Dr Ahmed Ciroma said the proliferation of Security agencies is not the solution to the security challenges bedevilling the nation but stronger synergy between agencies and stakeholders in the sector as well as the public.

The Chairman of the occasion and Vice Chancellor ATBU Bauchi, Professor Muhammad Ahmad Abdul’azeez represented by the Chairman Security Committee of the University Professor Bala Dalhat promised to harmonise all the recommendations and step it down to the immediate community for improved security.

In seperate goodwill messages, the Commissioner Internal Security and Home Affairs Barrister Abubakar Abdulhamid, District Head of Jama’are Alhaji Abubakar Wani, representatives of Brigade Commander 33 Artillery, Lieutenant Colonel AB Ibraham, Commissioner Higher Education Mr Bias Solomon, Rector ATAP, NDLEA called for the adoption of all recommendations to improve security in students environment.

The Convener and Chairman NANS JCC Bauchi Axis, Comrade Usman Mansoor said the summit was organised to brainstorm on issues of security affecting students at on and off campus environments towards finding lasting solutions.

The Summit with the theme; A Holistic Approach to Confronting Nigeria’s Security Challenges, drew participants from Security Agencies, Academia, Traditional Institution, Student Unions and the Media.
