RAMADAN FEEDING: JGSG To Establish Feeding Centres At 10 Tertiary Institutions For Students

Jigawa State Government says Ramadan feeding centres will be established at 10 tertiary institutions across the state to support students during fasting period.

The State Commissioner for information, youths, sports and Culture Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting held at government house Dutse.

According to him, the state government plans to feed over 3.8 million people during this year’s Ramadan period in order to support the poor and vulnerable.

Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed pointed out that, the state government has approved over 2.8 Billion naira for special Ramadan feeding at the established 609 centers across the state.

He said the support initiative designed inline with government policy is meant to reduce hardship and burden on the less privileged people particularly during this trying period.

The Commissioner noted that, the council also approved the formation of an adhock committee in all the 27 local government area to be chaired by the commissioner for local government or senior special advisers at the local government without commissioner to ensure transparency.

Sagir said, other committee members include members of state house of assembly, senior special assistants, special assistants, local government chairman and Police DPO
Others also include Department of State Security DSS officer of the Local government,representative CSO’s, representative of districts heads, with local government secretary who is to serve as Secretary of the committee.

Similarly the council also approved over 1.125 billion naira for additional procurement of food stuff to be distributed to poor and vulnerable people in an effort to cushion the effects of the current economic hardship.
