Stakeholders in Bauchi state, have called for capacity strengthening for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on Memo writing that would trigger release of funds from the executive arm, towards execution of citizens oriented projects.

They made the call at a Pause and Reflect Quarterly meeting, supported by USAID funded State Accountability, Transparency, and Effectiveness (State2State) Activity, Bauchi Field Office.

The objective of the meeting was to identify and capture lessons learned and offer recommendations that can be used to improve the project’s performance and outcomes.

It was also to elicit the views of stakeholders on the implementation of State2State Activity, both negative and positive that can be applied to adjust, adapt, implement, and maximize results.

The stakeholders drawn from three thematic sectors of Health, Education, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), acknowledged that weak Memos were being dumped for lack of substance to secure executive approval.

The capacity strengthening according to them, would boost the knowledge of the MDAs to write strong and direct to the point Memos that would convince the state Governor to grant approval for the release of funds to execute citizens oriented projects.

It was also identified at the Pause and Reflect meeting that despite citizens engagement during the budget process in the three senatorial districts of the state, there was the need for the citizens to really understand and identify what their needs are, for proper inclusion into the budget.

The stakeholders said strengthening the citizens capacity in that direction was an important tool towards actualising citizens oriented projects especially in rural communities and would in the long run boost their confidence on the government.

Our Correspondent reports that the Pause and Reflect meeting was for the Bauchi State Fiscal Year 4/2024 quarter 2 of of USAID funded State2State Activity, and was participated by state and non-state actors.
