TCI,DevComs joins global Communities to celebrate IWD 2024

The Challenge Initiative (TCI) in collaboration with Development Communications (DevComs) Network have joined Global Communities in commemorating International Women’s Day 2024.

In a joint statement issued to Newsmen in Damaturu, TCI and DevCons Network expresses more commitment towards advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.

They also emphasise on the critical importance of increased investment in women and girl child, particularly in the realms of family planning, inclusive health research, and journalism.

“At DevComs Network we recognise that access to comprehensive family planning services and inclusive health research is essential for women to make informed decisions about their bodies, health, and futures.

By increasing investments in these areas,we can empower women to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives and contribute to sustainable development.” the statement added.

According to the statement International Women’s Day serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for gender equality and the imperative to prioritize the rights and well-being of women and girls worldwide.

DevComs Network in the statement announce the successful conclusion of a training program for journalists in eight states across Nigeria, as part of 2024 International Women’s Day Celebration.

The trainings, supported by The Challenge Initiative (TCI) Nigeria were aimed at equipping journalists with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively report on issues related to family planning, reproductive health, and women’s rights.

This is in addition to efforts on public understanding of science and public health issues across Africa and past efforts built on the concluded Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI).

DevComs Network called on governments, policymakers, civil society organizations, stakeholders and individuals in eight states of Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Borno, Jigawa, Kwara, Osun, Sokoto and Yobe to prioritize investments in women and girls, with a specific focus on family planning and inclusive health research.

This year’s theme is “Investing in Women: Accelerate Progress”.
