Yobe Gov’t Vows to Partner NEDC on Environmental Sustainability

Yobe State Government expressed willingness to work in collaboration with the North East Development Commission, NEDC, towards addressing the issue of ecological challenges in the State.

The Commissioner of the State Ministry of Environment Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, committed while declaring open the five days of awareness and adaptation training organized by the North East Development Commission, NEDC, for over two hundred participants drawn from different ministries, departments, and agencies of government on Climate Change held at the National Open University in Damaturu, the State Capital.

According to the environmental commissioner who was represented at the event by the Director of Climate Change Ahmed Mohammed, climate change was identified by the United Nations as the most serious challenge affecting humanity, all hands need to be on deck to tackle the menace.

The Yobe State Coordinator of the NEDC Dr. Ibrahim Ali Abbas represented by the Assistant Manager Ali Mai Muktar, says organizing the training workshop is part of the measures taken by the commission to ensure that people are aware of climate change mitigation.

Dr. Abbas pointed out that Yobe as one of the six northeastern states devastated by insurgency and land degradation, the commission considered creating an awareness on environmental sustainability as one of the solutions to the problem.

The training consultant lead, Bala Mohammed, called on the participants to make proper use of the knowledge acquired after the programme to ensure environmental sustainability.
