Conference on Post Insurgency and Cultural Sustainability opens in Maiduguri.
Government officials, heads of security agencies and participants at the 3rd international conference on cultural sustainability in University of Maiduguri.

Scholars in the field of cultural studies in the county and different parts of the world have converged on Maiduguri, the Borno state capital for the third biannual international conference on cultural sustainability.
The conference organised by Centre for the study and promotion of cultural sustainability University of Maiduguri in partnership with Universities in Germany and Ghana.
Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba said the conference is aimed at promoting cultural studies and sustainability in line with the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor central administration, Professor Mohammed Mele, the VC announced that the Centre has produced eight Phds, fourteen Masters and one PGD in cultural sustainability.
“The University will in this manner, continue to contribute to cultural preservation, promotion and sustainability. I therefore once again, call on students and researchers in related fields to cultivate the Interest in cultural studies to ensure the sustainability of our cultures” Shugaba said.
Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum represented by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar explained that the reintegration process of the state government has taken into cognisance culture and traditions of the people.
According to him, a museum on Boko Haram conflict would be established for the upcoming generation to have informed knowledge about the conflict.
Chairman of the occasion, Zanna Bogoma of Borno, Alhaji Hassan Bogoma observed that the insurgency has significantly erode the culture of people of Borno and the entire region.
Director Center for the study and promotion of cultural sustainability, Professor Saliba James said the third conference is focusing on post insurgency, particularly resettlement of displaced cultural communities.
He added that conference will provide opportunity for scholars to assess efforts at relocation, resettlement of victims of insurgency by governments in the region.
Over sixty scholarly papers will be presented at the conference with the theme” Culture, Resettlement and Post Insurgency “.
