Zulum launches distribution of food palliatives to 100,000 families

 The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has launched the distribution of food palliatives to over 100,000 vulnerable households in two local government areas of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere.
 
The distribution was aimed at mitigating the hardship occasioned by the rising costs of food items and other essential commodities.
 
Performing the symbolic presentation at the Maiduguri Sports Centre, Governor Zulum said each of the households would receive one bag of 25kg rice and a 25kg bag of maize.
 
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of the people, especially victims of Boko Haram insurgency.
 
“We are here today to flag off the distribution of food items to 100,000 heads of households from Maiduguri Metropolitan and its environs. Everyone in Nigeria is aware of the hardship people face regarding food shortages” Zulum said.

According to the Governor, the exercise is targeting the most vulnerable members of the society in order to reduce the burden of the high cost of living in the metropolis.

The Governor also announced that the palliative distribution would be scaled up from 100,000 to over 200,000 families to seven local government areas in southern part of the state before the end of Ramadan fast.
 
He added, “As long as I am the governor of Borno State, the distribution of palliative will continue. However, I want to stress that while the palliative distribution continues, we will continue investing in commercial and subsistence agriculture” Zulum assured. 
 
He urged people of the state to actively engage in agriculture to boost food production  assuring to provide more palliatives including free buses, agricultural inputs and cash support to reinvigorate the economic of the state.
