Bauchi Gov’t to convene a Stakeholders meeting on the proposed bill to address the activities of Scrap Scavengers.

Bauchi State Government in collaboration with State House of Assembly Committees on Security, Education, Forestry and Environment to convene a Stakeholders Technical meeting on the proposed bill to address the activities of Scrap Scavengers in the state.

The Chairman House Committee on Education Dr Nasir Ahmad Ala stated this at a meeting with relevant agencies convened by the three committees to discuss modalities towards regulating the activities of the affected persons through the proposed bill.

Dr Nasir Ala who is the sponsor of the bill emphasised the need for all the stakeholders to give maximum support and input in formulating a comprehensive legislative bill that would address the problem for improved security and access to quality education.

While assuring of speedy passage of the bill, the Chairman House Committee on Education stressed the need for synergy among various implementing MDAs in the area of enforcement.

On his part, the Initiator of the bill and Executive Chairman, SUBEB Alhaji Adamu Duguri who advised the House to consider public rights before passing the bill, called for the co-opting of relevant ministries and agencies to ease manpower challenge when it comes to enforcement.

Also Speaking, the Director General State Environmental Protection Agency BASEPA Dr Mahmood Muhammad Bose highlighted the importance of the bill especially in the areas of revenue generation, environmental management and reduction in crime rate across the state.

Also during the meeting, the State Ministry of Environment promised to organise a two-day stakeholders technical meeting to discuss gray areas and implementation of the proposed bill if passed into law.

Those in attendance include members of State Assembly Committees on Security, Education, Forestry and Environment, Commissioner of Health, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, SUBEB Management, Director General BASEPA among others.
