NHRC’s Training on Protection Dor The Displaced.

The National human right commission (NHRC) in duo with United States high Commissioner for refugees (UNHCR) has organized a one day workshop on data collection and inception training on guidelines for human right based approach on protection referral for forcibly displaced persons (FDPs/Asylum seekers Refugees and Returnees at Hamada Hotel here in state capital.

Our Reporter Abubakar Musa Haruna reports that the executive secretary NHRC Tony Ojukwu, who was represented by his special assistant head of monitoring dept NHRC Okoyi Agu Benedict, in a welcome address said inception training is for the participants to explore on ways of information decumentation gathering through data collection of IDPs,FDPs Asylum seekers, refugees and returnees in Nigeria with regards to 2025 NHRC/UNHCR project to offers protection services.

Okoye Agu Benedict explained that the project covers Adamawa, Borno, Yobe,, Taraba, katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Zamfara, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Benue States with adaptation of a multifaced intervention which will encompass on Human Rights Based approach research that will improve access to human rights promotion and protection in Nigeria.

He said what prompted the feat is there assisment which clearly shows and indicate that there are violations going on due to the status core of the IDPs, FDPs, Asylum seekers, refugees and returnees and the essence is for UHRC/UNHCR to start collecting data base on dash board through the Kobo reporting tool which will be analysed to show how many of them were violated in terms of sexual abuse, denial to WASH, a particular ristriction to social corehesion or psyco social health issues.

The parcipants in there separate remark thank the organisers for the timely training and promised to utilize the input.

The training witness 53 participants from the northeast and the project is a three year duration aims at enhancing the promotion and protection of human rights of IDPs, FDPs, Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Returnees.
