Communities in Bauchi State have been urged to closely monitor public healthcare facilities within their domains to ensure effective service delivery at the grassroots level.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam, gave the charge while leading stakeholders in the health sector during a reinforced supervision and monitoring exercise of health facilities in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the State.

Dr Dambam noted that the re-strategised supervision of healthcare facilities in the state aims to enhance service delivery and improve overall healthcare standards.

While lamenting on the nonchalant attitude of some healthcare workers, Dr Dambam warned them against any form of misconduct, stating that anyone found wanting would face a disciplinary committee.

He commended the State Governor, Bala Muhammad, for the construction and rehabilitation of over one hundred healthcare facilities across the twenty local government areas of Bauchi State.

He also urged residents to report any individuals attempting to compromise the operations of healthcare centres in their communities.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Alkaleri Local Government, Alhaji Garba Hassan Bajama, said the monitoring initiative aligns with the local government’s efforts to ensure proper monitoring and evaluation of its healthcare facilities.

Alhaji Bajama, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Abbas Ibrahim, appealed to the state government to recruit more healthcare personnel to address the manpower shortages in hospitals.

Also speaking, the District Head of Pali, Alhaji Garba Muhammad Sambo, and the District Head of Yalwan Duguri, Alhaji Ibrahim YM Baba, expressed appreciation and pledged communitiess support to the initiative.

During the reinforced supervision, the team visited the General Hospital Alkaleri, Primary Healthcare Centre Alkaleri, Gwaram Primary Healthcare Centre, and Cottage Hospital Yalwan Duguri, among other facilities.
