The Soil Science Society of Nigeria (SSSN) is set to host its 49th Annual Conference at Bayero University Kano from April 8 to 11, 2025.
The conference, themed “Promoting Soil Health and Resilience Through Research and Innovation for Sustainable Development,” aims to enhance soil science and boost food security in Nigeria.
President of the SSSN, Professor Jibril Mohammad Jibril, stated that the conference seeks to identify modalities for enhancing soil science to increase crop yields and prevent agricultural losses.
The society is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to conduct research and provide information on proper soil utilization and fertilizer application.
Notable Nigerians, including Governor of Borno State, Professor Baba Gana Umara Zulum, and the State Minister of Agriculture, will be conferred with membership awards for their contributions to soil science in Nigeria.
The conference will feature:
-Sub-themes*: Land Resource Assessment and Management, Soil Health and Nutrient Management, Soil Physics and Conservation, Capacity Building and Extension, and Cross-Cutting and Advances in Soil Science Research.
This conference marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time the SSSN annual conference will be held in Kano in 47 years.
