Students of Tertiary Institutions in Bauchi State have been Engaged in Peace Building Initiatives.

Students of tertiary institutions in Bauchi State have been engaged in peace building initiatives to consolidate on the peaceful coexistence being enjoyed among hetrogineous tribes in the state.

A Non Governmental Organizations, Search for Common Ground, with support from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, champion the course of the initiative through a film show titled, Bridging the Abyss, under Promoting Freedom of Religion or Belief Project.

The students who may be referred as FoRB Champions in their schools, because they are expected to fight for the discrimination or violation of beliefs and promote freedom of religion or belief.

The Project Manager Mr Gaius Dachet said the aim of organizing the programme was to promote human rights within religion because most crisis emerged as a result of intolerance and lack of respect for others beliefs.

Gaius Dachet believed that if people continue to promote and protect others’ beliefs, religious crisis would be curtailed to the minimum level.

He said the Project used early warning platforms to halt the use of position to maltreat or marginalize others across the thirty six states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The Project Manager explained that other components include radio engagement and social media platforms to create awareness among people for inter religious harmony.

Also speaking the Senior Media Officer Search for Common Ground Ms Katlong Dasat said the project promoting or protecting religion or beliefs is being projected through film was to enable the participants to relate easily.

Ms Katlong Dasat who expressed delight over the large turnout of the students noted that they would become ambassadors of peace and make others understand the need why others believe what they belief and respect in their respective institutions.

The programme drew participants from almost all tertiary institutions across the state capital.
