KNSG Boosts Education Sector with Increased Budget Allocation of 31.5%

The Kano State Government says it has Reaffirms it’s determination of enhancing quality education in the state by increasing the budget allocation to the education sector.

The Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Ali Haruna Makoda disclosed this while briefing journalist in his office.

He said the 2025 budget has allocated 31.5% of the total budget to education, surpassing the threshold and showing the government’s passion and commitment to the sector.

Makoda explained that government has implemented several initiatives to improve the education sector, including Distribution of close to 800,000 uniforms to pupils,Procurement of instructional materials and equipment for schools, Registration of 10,000 students of less privileged for UTME Jamb registration, free of charge, Training and retraining of teachers to improve quality education.

The Commissioner noted that other initiative includes Renovation of over 1,200 schools, with additional 130 schools set for renovation,Establishment of new schools, including Angoro Junior Secondary School and IDP Maridi School

Alhaji Ali Haruna Makoda further stated that despite the progress made, the education sector in Kano State still faces several challenges, including shortage of of basic infrastructure, such as toilets and perimeter fencing in schools,notingg that Poverty and negligence among parents were also among major challenges.

The Commissioner maintained that to address these challenges, the government has declared a state of emergency in the education sector and is working to provide solutions.

He emphasized the importance of community participation and collective responsibility in improving the education sector.

“The government is encouraging community participation in education, recognizing that it is a collective responsibility.”

The Commissioner appealed to parents, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to support the government’s efforts in improving the education sector.
