The Nigeria Library Association, Kano Chapter, has donated books to the Kurmawa Correctional Center to support inmates pursuing education while serving their jail terms.
The gesture was made in commemoration of World Book Day.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Library Association, Kano Chapter, Malam Naziru Ibrahim, said the donation aimed to equip the facility’s library with necessary books to enhance the educational development of inmates.
He noted that education is key to shaping inmates to become useful members of society after serving their jail terms.
“The aim of this gesture is to ensure that libraries located at the facility are well-equipped with the needed books for the inmates studying while serving their jail terms.”
The officer in charge of the Medium Correctional Center, Kurmawa, Deputy Comptroller of Correctional Center Ibrahim Isa Rambo, commended the association for the gesture.
He emphasized that lack of education is one of the major challenges that lead people to commit crimes and called on philanthropists to emulate the gesture to enhance the educational development of inmates.

Rambo added that the association’s effort is seen as a step towards rehabilitating inmates and reintegrating them into society as useful citizens.
