In a bid to foster unity, patriotism, and good governance, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged political parties to integrate the National Values Charter into their manifestoes and constitutions.

At a sensitization workshop held in Yola, the agency emphasized the role of political parties as key drivers in institutionalizing values that promote peace, inclusivity, and national development.

The Adamawa State Director of NOA, Mr. Richard Bala Dangari, described the Charter as a blueprint for building a cohesive society.

He explained that the document upholds equality for all Nigerians, regardless of gender, religion, or ethnicity, and aims to steer the country toward sustainable progress.

He reiterated the need for political parties to reflect these values in their ideologies and policy directions, noting that value-driven politics is essential to strengthening democracy and restoring public trust.

Participants at the workshop, including Azeez Jibrilla of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Saad Adamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), commended the initiative.

However, they highlighted the importance of extending the sensitization to a wider range of political parties to ensure broader awareness and adoption.

The National Values Charter, also known as Seven for Seven, outlines seven government commitments including equity, democracy, entrepreneurship and employment, inclusivity, freedom and justice, and meritocracy, referred to as The Nigerian Promise.

It also spells out seven core citizen responsibilities, including discipline, duty of care, tolerance and respect, leadership, transparency, environmental awareness, and resilience.

As the 2027 election cycle approaches, NOA maintains that aligning political ideologies with the principles of the National Values Charter could serve as a foundation for more responsive and responsible governance.
