Women of childbearing age have been advised to access antenatal care services during pregnancy to prevent maternal complications.
Dr. Aisha Buba, a Consultant Gynecologist at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), gave this advice while briefing journalists on this year’s International Day to End Obstetric Fistula in Damaturu, Yobe State capital.
According to Dr. Buba, visiting antenatal healthcare facilities plays a vital role in early identification and management of health complications, particularly for women at risk of prolonged or obstructed labor.
She noted that prolonged or obstructed labor is the primary cause of obstetric fistula.
However, with proper medical care during delivery, skilled healthcare providers can monitor and manage the situation, preventing complications.
Dr. Buba urged stakeholders and development partners to collaborate with maternal healthcare services to raise public awareness about obstetric fistula prevention and treatment.
The medical expert further states that the Child birth Spacing is also play a vital role in preventing maternal complications, including obstetric fistula.
She added that practicing a childbirth spacing is the key aspect to safeguard the health of the mothers and their children as well as living standard family.
