The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability in the Northeast region.
The Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari, made the statement during the commissioning and handing over of completed projects by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Yobe State.
Alhaji Uba Maigari, who led the NEDC management team to the state, said the commission was established to respond to the enormous humanitarian and developmental challenges occasioned by prolonged insecurity in the region.
According to Maigari, based on President Bola Tinubu’s eight focus areas, the Ministry of Regional Development has developed priority areas of intervention to improve the socioeconomic development of the region.
The projects commissioned by the Minister included the NEDC state office, 250 housing units of 2-bedroom flats, a multi-purpose hall at Government Girls College, Damaturu, as well as a lecture theatre and Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the state university, Damaturu.
In Potiskum Local Government, the Minister inaugurated and handed over a mega school to the Yobe State Government.
The school consists of four blocks of one-story buildings containing 96 classrooms for primary and junior secondary school sections.
Other structures include an administrative block, staff quarters, a clinic, and an emergency room.
Maigari pointed out that two similar schools were also constructed by the commission in Gashua, under Bade Local Government, and Buni Yadi in Gujba Local Government areas.
While receiving the projects on behalf of the state government, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baba Mallam Wali, expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the vital projects in the state.
The SSG commended NEDC for its efforts towards ensuring the successful completion of the projects.
He added that the projects received would complement the state’s efforts in its speedy post-recovery progress.
