Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has commended Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan for sponsoring a bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship in Bama.
The Governor made the commendation while receiving the management and staff of the University of Maiduguri and Borno State University during a Sallah homage at the Government House.
Governor Zulum also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the bill for the establishment of the university and Vice President Kashim Shettima for facilitating the process.
He expressed full appreciation to the members of the National Assembly for their support of the bill, assuring that the state government will support the immediate takeoff of the institution.
With this development, according to the Governor, Borno State can now boast four public universities, which will undoubtedly enhance the educational development of the state. He stressed the need for the management of these universities to collaborate and streamline the courses offered at their respective institutions to avoid duplication and optimize resources.
The Governor lauded the management of the University of Maiduguri, headed by Professor Laminu Mele, and Borno State University, led by Professor Babagana Gutti, for providing quality leadership since assuming office. He assured them of the state government’s continuous support to enable them to achieve further success.
Governor Zulum further assured support to the University of Maiduguri in addressing the perennial water scarcity at the institution and thanked them for the Sallah homage.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Laminu Mele, represented by the Provost of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Yakubu Mukhtar, appreciated the continued support of the State Governor to the university. He also praised the unprecedented developmental strides recorded by the administration in all sectors of human endeavour and called on everyone to rally behind the present administration in the state.
Meanwhile, Professor Babagana Gutti commended the State Governor, a visitor to the university, for his passion in repositioning the young university to compete with older institutions through massive support from the state government.
