Fifty-three Programme Officers and Monitoring and Evaluation Officers from local government areas in Bauchi State are attending a four-day cascade training ahead of the 2026 Annual Operational Plan (AOP).
The training is part of the Nigeria Healthcare Sector Wide Approach, (SWAp), designed to build participants’ capacity for effective planning and coordination of healthcare service delivery across the state.
Technical Assistant to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare on SWAp, Dr Ashiru Adamu Abubakar, said the initiative aims to enhance grassroots health delivery through realistic and responsive health sector planning.
Dr Ashiru Abubakar noted that since 2023, the ministry has implemented strategic interventions targeting the improvement of Nigeria’s health system, particularly at the primary healthcare level.
He emphasised that state governments could access these interventions by making focused commitments, including realistic budgetary allocations and timely releases to strengthen healthcare systems.
The State Acting Desk Officer of SWAp, Ibrahim Muhammad, said the training followed a national Training of Trainers session, which was attended by three selected Programme Officers from Bauchi.
He explained that the fifty-three participants were being equipped with knowledge on SWAp operations to develop a SMART and realistic Annual Operational Plan to improve the state’s health outcomes.
