UBEC Vows to Repositions Sustainable Basic Education, Organizes Retreat in Kano

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has vows to Repositions Sustainable Basic Education in the Country.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission Aisha Garba disclosed this during a two-day retreat for the staff of the Agency at the Tahir Guest Palace Hotel in Kano.

She explained that the retreat was aimed at acquainting the staff of the agency with the requisite training geared towards repositioning the commission for sustainable basic education.

Aisha Garba, noted that the key priorities of the retreat o include Taking stock of progress made in the last six months since her tenure began,Identifying key priorities for the next six months and one year,and Fostering teamwork and collaboration between national and state-level governments to deliver basic education for the betterment of the child

The Executive Secretary emphasized that her top agenda to reform UBEC is in line with the “Hope Renewed Agenda” of the Presidency and the Ministerial Agenda by Minister Marruf Tunji Alausa.

” The goal is to achieve 100% access to education, reduce the number of out-of-school children, and improve the quality of education.”

Aisha Garba acknowledged that reforming UBEC will not be easy and will face resistance. However, she remains committed to ensuring UBEC is positioned to deliver on its mandate, despite challenges.

Alhaji Yusuf Kabir, Executive Secretary of Kano SUBEB,said Kano state government has initiated several strategies to improve basic education,which includes ,Distribution of instructional materials to schools
,Intensive new programs to maintain higher standards,Provision of uniforms to 769,000 primary school pupils and
Renovation of schools and construction of new classrooms among others.

Kabir commended the new leadership of UBEC and emphasized the importance of strengthening alliances with international communities and governments at the highest levels to achieve universal basic education goals .

The retreat, themed “Repositioning UBEC for Sustainable Basic Education,” brings together UBEC and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) staff from across the country .
