AGILE: Bauchi Gov’t plans recruitment of 3,000 Teachers, to begin CCT component implementation.

AGILE Girls Scholarship Program stakeholders meeting at Bauchi LGA

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has approved the recruitment of three thousand additional teachers to be deployed to Junior and Senior Secondary schools across the state.

This is part of condition towards the implementation of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment AGILE Additional Financing AF Project.

The Project Coordinator AGILE Malam Ali Sule Gar stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria after an inaugural Sensitisation meeting of the Girls Scholarship Program GSP with stakeholders from Bauchi local government.

Malam Ali Gar said two thousand teachers are to be deployed to junior secondary schools while the remaining one thousand would go to Senior Secondary schools to breach the pupils and students/teacher ratio gap across the benefitting schools under the project.

According to him, the teachers who would be under the payroll of the State government and not AGILE Project, are to be recruited from the benefitting communities to ease access, monitoring and ensure ownership.

The AGILE Project Coordinator also disclosed that payment of about nine thousand girls captured as beneficiaries under the Girls Scholarship Program GSP component is to commence in the next two weeks.

Malam Ali Gar said the Conditional Cash Transfer scheme involves the payment of fifteen thousand naira as registration fee to each of the beneficiaries, twenty thousand naira as stipend for first term, 10 thousand naira each for second and third terms respectively with the condition that each beneficiary must have at least seventy five percent attendance.

He said all ICT facilities, skills acquisition tools for the project implementation have been procured, noting that officials deployed to various communities to recruit eligible beneficiaries and working for the past ten weeks were able to capture only nine thousand out of the 20,250 targeted beneficiaries.

According to him, each school will be provided with a borehole, standard WASH toilets and adequate learning materials among other facilities, with amount of Grants allocation determined by the number of pupils/students recruited by each of the benefitting school.

He said as part of conditions towards the implementation of the project, plans have reached advanced stage for the recruitment of three thousand teachers under the payroll of the state government with the approval of Governor Bala Mohammed.

Ali Gar appealed to the leadership of the council, councillors and other stakeholders to monitor activities in their respective wards and communities to ensure that teachers perform their duties diligently.

Responding, the Executive Chairman Bauchi local government Alhaji Mahmoud Babama’aji who commended the AGILE technical team for its effort towards implementing the project to the latter, expressed optimism in the capacity of all SBMC members in the area to deliver on their mandate.
