Federal Government Inaugurates 2,000 Litre Daily Capacity Milk Collection Centre in Bauchi

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has inaugurated a Milk Collection Centre, with 2,000 litre s daily capacity at Sawi Grazing Reserve in Adamami community of Shira local government area of Bauchi state.

The facility was rehabilitated and equipped few years ago by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, under Livestock Directorate and will now be managed by a private investor, L&Z Integrated Farms.

The Ministry’s Director of Livestock Development, Mr Tagwi James, clarified that the facility was sited at Sawi Grazing Reserve considering the milk deposit that can be harnessed on a daily basis.

Mr James said the rehabilitation of the Milk Collection Centre was part of the Federal Government’s renewed drive to meet the country’s demand for diary products.

Managing Director of the L&Z Integrated Farms Muhammad Damakka Abubakar who acknowledged that the Nigeria needs self-sufficiency in terms of diary processing and production, assured to ensure quality in its products.

Speaking during the event, Chairman of Shira Local Government, Alhaji Babangida Maliya said although pastoralists play a vital role in boosting the country’s economy, lamented that their movement to different settlements was hampering their children’s educational pursuit.

District Head of Disina, Alhaji Abdullahi Mustapha expressed gratitude to the federal government, saying the development would settle the pastoralists in one place, with their children having the opportunity to be enrolled in school.

Chairman Miyetti Allah, Shira LGA Umar Muhammad Hassan said the siting the Milk Collection Centre at Sawi Grazing Reserve was a welcome development, pledging their resolve to supply the facility with quality milk.
