The Kano State Government has set an ambitious target of registering 10 million eligible voters during the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, made this known while inaugurating the State Voter Registration Mobilization Committee at the Cabinet Office, Kano.
According to him, the committee is a broad-based body comprising technocrats, Islamic scholars, broadcasters, business leaders, and other critical stakeholders, including representatives of opposition political parties.
Alhaji Umar Faruk said the initiative reflects government’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible resident of Kano has the opportunity to register and exercise their civic responsibility during future elections.
“The objective of setting up this committee is to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of this exercise. The government will provide all the needed support to achieve this target,”
He further directed the committee to intensify voter sensitization campaigns across all the 44 local government areas of the state, stressing the importance of inclusive participation in strengthening democracy.
In his response, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, assured the state government of the committee’s commitment to delivering on its mandate.
“We assure the government and people of the state that we will not betray the trust reposed in us. We will work tirelessly to mobilize residents and achieve the target,”
