Oncologist Advises Women On Breast Cancer Prevention

A Consultant General Surgeon with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi, Dr Adamu Bala Ningi advises career women to as soon as reaching 25 years get married and conceive immediately to protect themselves against Breast Cancer.

Dr Adamu Ningi gave the advice at the 2023 Five-kilometer Walk Breast Cancer Awareness campaign in Bauchi metropolis, organized by a consortium of Non Governmental Organizations.

He said aspiring career women need not to be worry because they have the opportunity to pursue their chosen careers after giving birth to their first, second or even third child.

According to him age played a vital role in women’s exposure to contracting breast cancer as those who attain 35 years and above were more at risk that those below that age.

Dr Ningi who is also a Specialist in Oncology advised women to give birth early and breastfeed their babies for a longer period to protect themselves against the deadly disease.

He explained that use of contraceptives for for more than ten years and avoidance of breastfeeding maximizes women chances of having Breast cancer, assuring that the disease if detected early could be treated and cured.

A CEO of one of the NGOs, Aisha Bappha said this was the second year the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk campaign was taking place in Bauchi, expressing optimism that it would be sustained.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Walk which witnessed attendance of male and female genders from different works of life, took off at Ahmadu Bello way to Winti market, Kobi street through Yakubun Bauchi Way and culminated at the Government House Bauchi.
