The Kano State Government has announced that it is working closely with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to trace a pilgrim from the state who went missing in Saudi Arabia during this year’s Hajj exercise.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed this at the Government House in Kano while receiving the 2025 Hajj report from the state delegation led by the Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammadu Maharaz.

The missing pilgrim, identified as Sani Abubakar Danmaliki from Kumbotso Local Government Area, reportedly disappeared during the spiritual rites in the Holy Land.

Governor Yusuf assured that the state government, in collaboration with NAHCON, is making every effort to locate him.

He extended heartfelt sympathy to the pilgrim’s family, noting that if he is confirmed dead, the government prays for the repose of his soul.

“We are collaborating with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria to locate the missing pilgrim. And if he is dead, may his soul rest in peace,” .

The governor also condoled with the families of two other Kano pilgrims who passed away during the exercise.

While commending the Emir of Karaye, who served as the leader of the state delegation, Yusuf praised his dedication and leadership in ensuring a smooth Hajj operation.

Emir Maharaz said the 2025 Hajj operation was largely successful, attributing the achievement to the unwavering support of the governor, the resilience of the delegation, and the commitment of the Pilgrims Welfare Board.

He explained that the report submitted to the governor captured both the successes and challenges encountered during the exercise, which would serve as a guide for improving future Hajj operations.

The Director-General of the Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Lamin Rabiu, echoed the Emir’s remarks, describing the exercise as “very successful.”

He thanked Governor Yusuf for his consistent support and also commended the Emir of Karaye for his tireless contributions in Saudi Arabia.
