Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has inaugurated dental and eye hospitals, as well as a College of Nursing and Midwifery, in Monguno, the headquarters of Monguno Local Government Area. During the inauguration, he also flagged off a free cataract operation program for citizens of the Northern Borno Senatorial District.
Radio Nigeria Correspondent reports that the Governor has also directed the construction of one hundred housing units to accommodate staff of the health institutions.
Providing affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare services is a priority for the present administration in Borno State, which prompted the construction of the dental and eye hospitals in Monguno.
Similar hospitals have already been built and put into use in Biu for Southern Borno, and a completed College of Nursing is awaiting inauguration in Gwoza. Each senatorial zone in the state now has these health facilities, designed to provide accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services.
The Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery will serve as training grounds for upcoming paramedics, whose services are crucial to the provision of quality healthcare services.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum urged stakeholders in the area to ensure the maintenance of the health facilities and encourage youth in the northern senatorial zone to take advantage of the college to become nurses and midwives.
The Governor also announced the approval of three billion naira for the construction of a specialist hospital in Monguno.
Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, representing Northern Borno, and Bukar Talba, the member representing Marte, Monguno, and Nganzai Federal Constituency, expressed their appreciation to Governor Zulum for the numerous developmental projects in the senatorial district, assuring him of their commitment to their sustainability.
Commissioner for Health, Professor Baba Mallam Gana, thanked Governor Zulum for the 15% budgetary allocation for the health sector, stating that Borno is the only state that has dental and eye hospitals, as well as a college of nursing, in each zone.
