The Yobe State Government has debunked a report published by The Punch newspaper alleging a mass killing in Mafa village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
A statement by spokesperson to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Mamman Mohammed, described the report as false, misleading, and baseless.
According to the statement, records indicate that Mafa village and Yobe State have been peaceful, with residents pursuing their legitimate businesses.
The Yobe State Police Command, Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Affairs, and the Chairman of the Tarmuwa Local Government Council have all denied the alleged attack and burial.
The government demands a retraction of the false report and a public apology to the government and people of Yobe State, particularly the Mafa community, who have suffered psychological trauma from the report.
The statement condemned the publication as a gross disservice to journalism, allowing a reporter to mislead Nigerians and the world with a completely false and baseless report.
It is therefore explained that the report has put The Punch newspaper’s image to the test in the public eye.
The government further advised the public to disregard the report in its entirety, as it is completely false, baseless, misleading, and without any truth.
