The Executive Chairman Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB has directed Toro Local Education Authority to issue commendation letter to the management of Magama Gumau Junior Secondary for their effort in maintaining facilities at the school.
Similarly, the Executive Chairman appreciated the community for contributing towards the renovation blocks of classrooms at the school.
Alhaji Adamu Duguri said the present administration has always emphasised the need for community ownership of education facilities, noting that the effort of Magama Gumau community in constructing a block of classrooms and taking proper care of existing ones is a commendable effort.
“We have been advocating one thing, due to volume of expenses, education is capital intensive. There is need for communities to put in their best to help themselves and encourage government to do more. So in Gumau we saw a building constructed by the community with PTA and all what they do when it comes to resumption, they’re up and doing and that is why I said a Commendation letter should be given to that immediate community for emulating what we have been advocating”, the SUBEB Chairman states.
He expressed satisfaction with the turn out of both pupils/students and teachers in most of the schools visited and urged parents, community leaders and other education stakeholders to ensure all school aged children are enrolled in schools to guarantee their future.
Speaking to Radio Nigeria the Education Secretary Toro Local Education Authority LEA, Dr Nasir Muhammad Fanti said the proximity of communities across the council due to the construction of access roads by the present administration, has made it easy for them to monitor and supervise schools despite the local government having the highest number of schools in the state.
“Yes, we have the highest number of schools, but we are second in terms of staff. Bauchi LEA having the highest number of staff across the 20 local government, but Toro, the proximity is friendly because His Excellency has constructed about two major cardinal roads in this area.”
“The one from the Shenu to Lame that links down to the last village of the local government. Rimin Zayam axis, it has constructed a road that links to Dass, so supervision now is easier, not how it was, where you have to use bikes and what have you before you get to school. But all thanks to God, today you can go in 20 minutes or 30, you can go to both angles of the local government”, Fanti explains.
Dr Nasir Fanti promised to sustain the ongoing efforts and successes being recorded especially in the area of enrolment, maintenance of existing infrastructure as well as punctuality and discipline among teachers.
The monitoring team lead by the SUBEB Executive Chairman visited schools to include Tashan Durumi primary and junior secondary, Wom Primary school, Zaranda primary and junior secondary, Central primary school Nabordo, Rimin Zayam primary school, as well as Magama Gumau Central Primary and Junior Secondary all under Toro LEA.
Teams covering the Bauchi Central and Northern axis also visited schools in Warji, Ganjuwa, Katagum among {other LEAs to assess teaching and learning as the 2025/26 academic session begins.
