The Image Merchant Promotion Limited (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, has inaugurated a new hostel facility in Kano for its Young Communication Fellowship programme.
The announcement was made during the graduation ceremony of ten fellows who completed an intensive training in journalism, public relations, and crisis communication. The Editor-in-Chief of PRNigeria, Yushau Shuaib, said the hostel was built to accommodate participants coming from various parts of the country. He described the fellowship as timely, especially in tackling misinformation.
Shuaib said IMPR centres in Abuja, Kano, and Ilorin have also provided training in digital media, including photography, videography, public speaking, and web management.
Fellowship Coordinator Dahiru Lawal explained that the curriculum covered digital journalism, fact-checking, social media management, and crisis communication. Fellows also visited media houses, academic institutions, and corporate organisations for practical exposure.
Chairman of the IMPR Board, Associate Professor Sule Ya’u Sule, commended the programme and donated ₦250,000 to support the fellows’ final project. Other dignitaries at the event included Dr. Abdullahi Maiwada of the Nigeria Customs Service, SP Haruna Kiyawa of the Kano Police Command, politician Garba Yusuf, and Sarkin Kofar Dukawuya, Alhaji Bello Maitama.
A project pitch by fellow Hadiza Umar focused on a platform to fight misinformation and promote media literacy.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Aliyu Shehu Ingawa thanked PRNigeria for the training and promised the fellows would apply their skills to real-world challenges.
The PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship was launched in 2024.
