The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare delivery system, particularly in the area of maternal and child health.

The Minister stated this during the official commissioning of newly constructed medical facilities and the unveiling of state-of-the-art equipment at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe.

Professor Pate explained that the facilities provided within the hospital align with the Renewed Hope Agenda, of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which seeks to improve healthcare outcomes and ensure that every Nigerian child has a healthy start in life.

Speaking at the event, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, emphasized that the health and well-being of mothers and children remain at the core of his administration’s social development priorities.

He expressed optimism that the newly commissioned facilities and equipment would go a long way in bridging critical gaps in healthcare delivery across Gombe and surrounding communities.

According to the Governor, the intervention is expected to enhance specialized services in maternal, neonatal, and pediatric care, while helping to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the state.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of FTH Gombe, Dr. Yusuf Muhammad Abdullahi, disclosed that the hospital is the first federal institution to implemented the National Emergency Medical Services Initiative under President Tinubu’s administration.

Dr. Abdullahi noted that the newly installed equipment would greatly boost the hospital’s capacity to deliver quality and efficient healthcare services to the people of Gombe and beyond.

He also commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for providing a conducive environment and improved access roads that complement the infrastructural developments within the hospital premises.

Some of the projects commissioned include the National Health Insurance Authority Wing, 128-slice Computed Tomography Scan Machine with a modern CT Scan Suite, Anaesthesia and Critical Care Complex, Isolation and Molecular Laboratory Complex and internal access roads within the Institute of Science and Technology, among others.
