The Wikimedia User Group Nigeria has concluded its three-day “Train the Trainers” workshop, held from October 9th to 12th, 2025, in Kano, Nigeria.
The event brought together 35 Wikipedia editors from across the country, to enhance their skills and knowledge in content creation and editing.
The workshop held at Zaitun Hotel, featured prominent speakers, including the President of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria, Olaniyan Ishola Olushola, Mr Ayokonmi Kaizen, Roda James, Kayode Yusuf, and Ridzaina
Speaking via Zoom, the President of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria, Olaniyan Ishola Olushola, emphasised the importance of the training in improving the quality of content on Wikipedia.
He urged participants to utilise the knowledge gained during the training to make a positive impact.
“The success of Wikipedia relies heavily on the contributions of volunteers,” he added.
The lead facilitator, Mr Ayokonmi Kaizen, highlighted the significance of continuous training and retraining for Wikipedia editors.
“This will keep our editors updated on the latest developments and best practices on the platform,” Mr Kaizen said.
Earlier in an address of welcome, Chairman of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria, Kano Network, Abubakar Ali Gwanki, expressed his optimism about the positive impact the workshop would have on the editors.
“This training will equip our editors with the necessary skills to discharge their responsibilities effectively,” he said.
The “Train the Trainers” workshop is part of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria’s efforts to build the capacity of Wikipedia editors and promote online knowledge sharing in Nigeria.
The event provided a platform for editors to share experiences, learn from each other, and network.
By empowering Wikipedia editors in Kano, Wikimedia User Group Nigeria is contributing to the growth of online content and promoting access to information in Nigeria.
