Jigawa ACReSAL FONGO Sensitises Hadejia Communities On ACReSAL Project And Waste Management

In continuation of it’s community engagement, the Jigawa Focal NGO, PADAC Foundation has launched a community sensitization campaign on Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project, waste management, and formation of waste management community interest groups (CIGs) in Hadejia Local government.

The Executive Director of PADAC Foundation, Hajiya Aisha Aminu disclosed this to newsmen in Hadejia.

According to her, the event aims to promote the adoption of eco-friendly waste management techniques and empower local communities to address waste management challenges effectively as well as raising awareness about the adverse effects of improper waste disposal and encourages residents to adopt responsible waste management practices.

She said, over the past decade, Hadejia has experienced rapid urbanization and population growth, resulting in increased waste generation.

Hajiya Aisha Aminu said, It is a well known fact that Improper waste disposal has led to issues such as perennial flooding, environmental pollution, the spread of diseases, and the degradation of public spaces.

She noted that, the sensitization was conceptualized to mitigate these challenges and bring about a positive transformation in waste management.

“To ensure the project’s success, PADAC Foundation has formed Waste Management Community Interest Groups comprising passionate and dedicated individuals from different communities under Hadejia watershed. These groups will then serve as catalysts for change and support the project’s activities at the grassroots level”.

Hajiya Aisha Aminu explained that the ACReSAL project is a critical step towards ensuring the sustainable development of Hadejia, thereby encouraging responsible waste management practices.

She added that the exercise will create an empowered and eco-conscious society that prioritizes cleanliness and environmental preservation.

In his remark the chief Imam of Hadejia Mallam Yusuf Abdulrahman who was represented by his deputy stressed the for cleanliness as contained in Islam, and warned against human activities that may leads to flooding.

Also speaking, the district head of Hadejia Atafi Alhaji Haruna Bashir commended the effort of PADAC foundation, urged the participants to step down the message to their respective communities.

In his part, a participant Alhaji Tijjani Dodo commended the organisers of the exercise and pledged to do the needful.

With the launch of the ACReSAL project and the establishment of Waste Management Community Interest Groups, Hadejia is poised to become a shining example of effective waste management in Jigawa State.

Through collective efforts and community participation, this transformative initiative promises a cleaner, greener, and healthier future for all residents.
