The Yobe State Government has taken a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in local governance by launching a two-day capacity-building workshop for local government officials.

The event, held at Desert Hall in Damaturu, aimed to strengthen fiscal transparency and build citizens’ trust in governance.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni, represented at the occasion by his deputy, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, stated that the initiative is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency in local governance.

The workshop, organised by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Borno/Yobe office, featured paper presentations from experts on fiscal management, ethical leadership, and public service integrity.

Gov. Buni further explained that the government has introduced several reforms, including digital payment systems for revenue collection and strengthened audit mechanisms to ensure value for public money.

He added that improving fiscal discipline at the local government level would enhance transparency and boost public confidence in the management of state and local resources.

The Commissioner of ICPC Borno/Yobe Resident Anti-Corruption, Mr Linus Gubbi, commended the Yobe Government for its commitment to ethical governance and praised the partnership between the ICPC and the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The workshop was attended by various stakeholders, including the Speaker of the Yobe House of Assembly, represented by the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government, Alhaji Mohammed Ali, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu Jajere.
